Born at Midnight

Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls Series, Book 1)
C.C Hunter
★★★★★

I recently finished this book and it was phenomenal! Born at Midnight is about a girl whose name is Kylie (AHHH!) and she ends up and at a camp for paranormal people, a.k.a vampires, witches, fae, shape-shifters, werewolves, and people who can talk with the dead. When Kylie arrives at the camp she refuses to accept that she is paranormal even though she can talk to ghosts, a power which everyone, including the vampires, are terrified of. Kylie is not particularly excited to go to a camp filled with paranormal people especially because her parents are getting a divorce, a dead soldier is stalking her, and her boyfriend dumped her. As camp starts she becomes friends with a witch, a vampire, a fae, and a werewolf (sort of) but some strange things are afoot, like the men in black hanging around camp, rumors that animals from the wildlife park are going missing, and the possibility that the camp may be shut down. And of course that fact that she can’t for the life of her figure out what she is...

As I said before this book was phenomenal! I read all 398 pages in one day! I love paranormal and funny stories, which was what Born at Midnight was about (although more paranormal and less funny). I thought it was awesome that the main characters name was Kylie and she wasn’t a freaking out over a guy the entire book 24/7 (although she does have 2 love interests so there is love but not 24/7), which is always refreshing. I loved the characters because they were funny, smart, and paranormal creatures!! The plot was ok but the final showdown was extremely short, although the ending set the story up well for a sequel. It’s definitely a book you should read if you are a teenage girl who likes paranormal stories with some romance. Also, thank you Maddy for loaning me the book so I could read it!!! You are awesome!

Thanks for reading!

Introduction

I created this blog for my Personal Odyssey, which is about my love of books. In this blog I will talk about books I’ve read, share my opinion on those books, suggest some of my favorites, and show you some very interesting or practical words that I have found in my reading. Personal Odyssey is an exploration of something that you love doing, which you choose at the beginning of the year in 8th grade at the Girl’s Middle School.

Originally I was going to research 5 countries and for each place choose 3 cities, find the 10 top things I want to do in each city, read a book based in that country, and bake a recipe from that place. The Personal Odyssey that I started with has been very difficult for me because I usually go over board, but recently I realized that something I have been doing all year is reading.  I read a lot in 7th grade but this year I have read a great deal more especially because of the Reviewers. I love reading and I think I have really improved since 7th grade; another thing I have been doing this year is creating my own vocabulary list. I was very excited when I saw one of the words in a book I was reading. I really hope you like my blog and I would love if you comment on the things I write.
